What is the dress code for your wedding?
Semi-formal. Dress to impress but also for an evening of dancing and fun.
Are there any colors or styles you'd prefer me to wear?
Semi-formal, please. The wedding party is wearing various shades of rose/merlot/cabernet. If you're feeling a theme, use the colors of the bouquet Mary Rose carried on 11/22/23 as your inspiration. Feel free to do the same, if you wish (see photos!).
Will there be a ceremony?
Not exactly. Our formal marriage and exchange of vows took place in November. With that being said, we will have a short ring exchange ceremony (4:30pm). This weekend is all about celebrating with as many of our favorite people as possible!
Do you have a hotel block?
We do not! The prices for hotel block rooms were and are still significantly more expensive than Hotwire or Priceline prices, and since the IAHC is located in a residential neighborhood, many out of town guests have booked Airbnbs.
If you'd like to go the Airbnb route, we recommend looking at places in and around the Old Irving Park, Jefferson Park, Lincoln Square, or Mayfair neighborhoods if that's your jam.
Otherwise, any hotel that is near to the Blue Line and/or the Kennedy Expressway will likely be your best bet. Personally, we'd consider staying somewhere downtown, near the West Loop-Fulton Market, or Wicker Park.
What is the easiest way to get to and from your wedding venue(s)?
We highly recommend taking public transportation or using ride share options. Traffic in Chicago right now is horrendous. The IAHC has pending parking lot construction as well, so we highly recommend cabbing it to the reception.
Are the venues ADA accessible?
Yes! The IAHC has a ramp entrance from the parking lot as well as an elevator up to the Erin Room.
Is there parking available near your wedding venue(s)?
Unfortunately, the IAHC has pending parking lot construction plans (a major reason we didn't get the final details out sooner). There is typically plenty of street parking around the IAHC but the Taste of Polonia is also that weekend, so things might be a bit tight.
Other locations should have plenty of street parking and/or nearby parking lots (Forest Preserve).
What is the weather like in the area?
Labor Day weekend in Chicago tends to be pretty nice, but these days, who really knows! Average H/L is 78/62 F, but in 1983, the year of Lawrence's birth, it got up to 95! Lucky for his mom, he was born near Spokane.
You can take a look at the historical data here: https://www.weather.gov/lot/labor_day_climate
Can I post wedding photos on social media?
Sure, but keep it tasteful, please, and keep any photos of tiny humans private and/or unidentifiable.
What is your wedding reception hashtag?
Suggestions welcome. In the meantime, #osheahenderson #allenhall2001
Am I allowed to take photos at your wedding?
Sure thing! We'll also have a photographer and a photobooth of some variety.
Do you have suggestions for places to eat, drink, or see while we're in town?
Definitely! We'll share more information in the next few weeks.
What health and safety measures will be in place?
The latest Covid variant is making the rounds this summer (learned that the hard way), so we encourage everyone (and ourselves) to mask up, boost up, and test before coming. Covid may be "milder" but it still stinks, and we don't want anyone else to have to deal with another bout if possible, especially our immunocompromised guests! We'll also have masks and hand sanitizer at the IAHC for folks.
Can I request songs for the dance portion of the festivities?
Yes! There's a space to do so when you R.S.V.P, but you can also use the link below to add to our shared Spotify playlist.
Can I bring a plus one?
If it means you'll to have a better time, of course. If your person is not included on your invite, please talk to us so we can be sure we're still good with our numbers.
Is the reception adults only?
No.
Can I bring my kids?
If we know them, absolutely, and we likely included them on the invite. If you're hoping for a more child-free evening, consider bringing your kiddos to the more relaxed post-reception gathering on Sunday. Either way, please let us know if you're not sure or if you're running into childcare issues!
